KS4 & Options
In September 2016 students in the present Year 9 will begin a two year course leading to qualifications in GCSEs or BTECs. To assist in these important decisions there will be an Options Evening on Wednesday 13th January from 6pm to 7:30pm.
This will be followed by the Year 9 Parent/Teacher Evening on Thursday 21st January which will enable parents and carers to discuss emerging option choices with class teachers.
The Options Evening will provide parents and carers with the full range of possibilities with a detailed booklet and opportunities to talk to Heads of Department in each subject area. Our aim is to allow a degree of choice while making sure that all pupils have a broad, balanced curriculum. There will also be an option sheet available to parents on this evening.
This sheet should be returned by the deadline, Thursday 28th January. The form needs to be signed by a parent or guardian.
Each student in Year 9 will be advised which 'Pathway' they should take to give them the best curriculum choices for the future. Each pathway has its own option book and options form. Students will be advised in January which pathway they should follow. You can find copies of the option booklets below.
Obviously staffing levels and accommodation control the options which we can offer. While every attempt will be made to meet students’ needs, it may be necessary to offer some students alternative options from those that they initially request. This may occur if too few pupils opt for a subject or if there are too many to accommodate. In addition, if a student chooses an unsuitable subject, or too narrow a range of subjects, they will receive an Options Guidance session with the Assistant Head for Curriculum, where they will be able to discuss their choices and explore a range of appropriate alternatives.
