Eco schools is an international award programme that guide schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of the school life. Once registered, schools follow a simple seven-step process which helps them to address a variety of environmental themes, ranging from litter to waste to healthy living and biodiversity.

We are the first BANES school to receive the Eco School Green Flag.

The Beautiful Future team is Somervales eco school team. It was set up three years ago as a sub committee of the school council with the aim of making the school more sustainable and environmentally aware. It has completed a number of projects including improving the school grounds, reducing the school's energy output, paper and waste recycling and community events, raising the awareness of sustainable development within our

community. The whole team consists of about 45 members who regularly support projects around the school. The team is separated into several different groups of students who meet weekly to discuss projects.

We currently have the following groups:
*  Recycling team
*  Gardening team
*  Energy team
*  Transport team

*  The gardening team meet twice
   a week after school.
*  The recycling and energy team
   meet once a week during lunch.
*  The transport team meet every
   fortnight.
*  All Year 7 students are assigned to
   a team.
